Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled, highly motivated English-Spanish Interpreter to join our 100% remote team in Latin America. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a leading language solutions provider specializing in medical interpretation. Initially focused on Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI), this role offers a clear pathway to advance into Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) based on performance. You will be responsible for providing accurate, consecutive interpretation primarily in medical settings, as well as facilitating crucial communication in social services and financial contexts.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and professional consecutive interpretation between English and Spanish in medical settings
  • Facilitate communication in social services and financial contexts as needed
  • Maintain complete confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times
  • Demonstrate mastery of medical terminology and customer service vocabulary
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs
  • Meet minimum weekly hour requirements while maintaining schedule flexibility
  • Complete required certifications including HIPAA and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse (FWA)
  • Transition from OPI to VRI roles based on performance metrics and career advancement goals
  • Maintain a professional, quiet, and HIPAA-compliant home workspace
  • Communicate effectively with both healthcare providers and patients from diverse backgrounds

Requirements

  • Experience: 6 months to 1 year minimum of professional experience in remote medical interpretation
  • English Proficiency: Minimum C1 fluency (accepted certifications: EF SET 4-Skill, TOEFL, or CAE)
  • Medical Interpretation Certification: Valid proof of medical interpreter knowledge issued within the last 12 months
  • ALTA Certification: Minimum score of 9 required
  • LanguageStat (PICSI): Passing score of 75–80% required
  • Core Skills: Complete mastery of medical and customer service terminology in both languages
  • Compliance: Must currently hold, or be willing to obtain, HIPAA and FWA certifications
  • Background Check: Willingness to successfully complete a standard background check
  • Technical Requirements: Hardwired Ethernet connection (no Wi-Fi), Windows 10 OS, 4GB RAM, noise-canceling USB headset, latest browser version
  • Workspace: Dedicated, quiet, and fully HIPAA-compliant working environment at home

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both OPI and VRI platforms
  • Additional language pairs beyond English-Spanish
  • Previous experience in hospital or clinical interpretation settings
  • Knowledge of medical billing and insurance terminology
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems
